Urban Design + Placemaking

We believe in exploring whole new paradigms to transform our communities and cities into sustainable centres of growth.

Scatliff + Miller + Murray (SMM) has been transforming Winnipeg’s urban landscape since the 1980’s, having a significant impact on how we live in our city. SMM’s work has foreshadowed many of the positive changes under way in growing centres as cities increasingly seek a global competitive edge. Our work encompasses significant built projects as well as visionary masterplans that anticipate future development initiatives, catalysts for things yet to come. These masterplans are supported by realistic economic models, environmentally sustainable design, diverse housing typology and quality outdoor urban spaces. Our projects create opportunities to assess the neighbourhood character and initiate public engagement programs to determine placemaking opportunities and the best development type.

SMM has been chosen to design projects that have transformed Winnipeg’s downtown including: Waterfront Drive, City Hall Courtyard, the Disraeli Bridges Project, the Assiniboine Riverwalk, Bonnycastle Park, the replacement of the Main Street and Norwood bridges, and the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, to name a few. Our services include the climatically responsive planning and design of: public spaces, master plans, streetscapes, waterfronts, parks & golf courses, townscapes and any landscape that needs to be protected or enhanced.
