The Scatliff + Miller + Murray (SMM) team is proficient in creating novel concepts, compelling visuals and progressive designs that are envisaged and realized through each stage of development. We are often tasked to help our clients create a clear vision for developing their lands, whether the land is a large tract of urban or rural land, or a smaller parcel, public or private.
Urban Design + Placemaking
We believe in exploring whole new paradigms to transform our communities and cities into sustainable centres of growth. Scatliff + Miller + Murray (SMM) has been transforming Winnipeg’s urban landscape since the 1980’s, having a significant impact on how we live in our city. SMM’s work has foreshadowed many of the positive changes under way in growing centres as cities increasingly seek a global competitive edge.
Designing, Planning + Partnering with Indigenous Communities
At SMM, we aim to build relationships, accept accountability and forge new ways to open dialogue with Indigenous leaders and communities alike. We foster a spirit of truth and reconciliation in all our work, and seek open communication and collaboration with Indigenous stakeholders, regardless of the nature of the project.
Parks, Open Space + Recreation Planning
SMM looks to well-established parks and popular open spaces to create places that contribute to public enjoyment and have long lasting appeal. Our approach to parks and open space is to build on qualities that make a place special, to improve neighbourhoods, and contribute to the social and recreational life of communities. Our park projects range from local neighbourhood green spaces to regional destinations.
Planning + Land Development
Scatliff + Miller + Murray has over 20 years of experience in innovative community planning. We help communities visualize their future and develop the strategies and tools required to turn that vision into reality. Every place is unique, with its own challenges and opportunities. We work with clients on a planning process customized to local needs and engage clients, stakeholders and the public on the strategic goals and actions that will move each community towards its own vision for the future.
Native plants and wetlands are a part of our natural history, and a very practical part of our future. Well-designed and implemented native grass and wetland plantings are key facets in the solutions to many of the sustainability issues we face today. The Scatliff + Miller + Murray (SMM) Environmental Group has decades of accumulated knowledge and proven results. We provide conceptual and detailed design, performance specifications and installation supervision for major upland, riparian and wetland revegetation projects.
Over the past decade, SMM has emerged as the leading expert in sustainable and active transportation (AT) in Manitoba, initiating new and innovative ideas for healthier, more sustainable communities. SMM leads the corporate pack on ‘Bike to Work Day’. Our AT specialists are authentic - they practice the AT lifestyle as part of their everyday lives.
3D Modeling + Graphic Communications
We’ve built our reputation on providing our clients with high quality 3D stills, animations and simulations that demonstrate and convey our vision of the future in the simplest and most compelling ways possible. Our nine minute video looking into the future of the Main Street & Norwood bridges in Winnipeg helped gain public and political support for the largest public works project the City of Winnipeg has undertaken. Our animated video of the Disraeli bridge project was a key aspect of our winning bid for this major P3 project.
SMM is a leader in public engagement, with over 30 years in the industry; our professional designers, planners and communication experts have been facilitating and leading knowledge based consultation events for a broad range of projects, from their inception through to construction.
