Activity at an all time high - A grassy commons for sunbathing, frisbee, and skating, encompassed by a 200-meter track.

SMM together with Parks created a project support group that included internal and external stakeholders to guide the design of the park.  An information session was held to gather preliminary thoughts from the community followed up by an open house for the proposed concept. The park received unanimous support from the community and stakeholders.

SMM collaborated with SkyRim Studios on the Chinook Arc public art piece to ensure integration of with the park.  SMM designed illuminated pixel lights to complement the art piece and provide a unified design language throughout.  Custom site furniture was designed with simple timber, concrete, granite, and galvanized steel for ease of maintenance and non-proprietary replacement of components.

The oval pathway was designed to be two hundred meters in length to allow for those using the park for exercise to count their steps. The large grass commons was a desire of the community for informal gathering and passive activities like sunbathing, frisbee, skating and tai chi. Since it’s opening in July 2014 the park has been a destination for both the community and Calgarians to enjoy an accessible urban green space, interact with the sculpture and enjoy the city.
