The Assiniboine Riverwalk
A key active transportation corridor and a linear-cultural-hub in our four-season city.
As a four-season city, the Assiniboine Riverwalk was a key project in the “opening up” of Winnipeg’s waterways for year-round public recreation. The 1.2 km long Riverwalk is an innovative combination of structural concrete dock systems and granular bank stabilization, providing a riverbank walkway design to flood and withstand damage from ice flows during Winnipeg’s high river conditions in the spring.
Since completion, the Riverwalk has become a landmark in the urban fabric of Winnipeg, accommodating multiple recreational opportunities such as walking, cycling, fishing, sunbathing, and boat docking.
